What is CBD?

This post is sponsored by IndicaOrganics.com, an online retailer carrying one of the most reputable names in hemp-derived cannabidiol at low prices. What is CBDCBD stands for cannabidiol, a naturally occurring molecule that belongs to the class of cannabinoids.  Cannabidiol is usually the primary cannabinoid of fiber or industrial hemp/cannabis.  In fiber cannabis, CBD is present in concentrations in the range of about 0.5 to 2 % in the upper third of the plant and the flowers. These are the terpeno-phenolic compounds produced in glandular trichomes of cannabis plants, and cannabidiol (CBD) is one of at least 85 active cannabinoids identified in cannabis.

"Cannabidiol is usually the primary cannabinoid of fiber or industrial hemp and the second most prevalent cannabinoid in drug types of the hemp plant."

CBD is a naturally occurring constituent of industrial hemp/cannabis:

  • Formula = C21H30O2
  • Molecular mass = 314.4636
  • It's the most abundant non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis
  • It is being scientifically investigated for various reasons
  • CBD is a derivative of CBD-A (cannabidiolic acid), produced when CBD-A comes into contact with heat.

In fiber hemp, Cannabidiol is present in concentrations in the range of about 0.5 to 2 % in the upper third of the plant and the flowers. In recent years there is increasing interest in the therapeutic potential of CBD, which causes no psychotropic effects and even in high doses does not cause relevant side-effects.

‘CBD oil’ is a cannabis oil (whether derived from industrial hemp or marijuana). The word cannabis is the latin genus name for both.  It has significant amounts of cannabidiol (CBD) contained within it.

Our CBD oil is extracted from raw hemp material produced from organic hemp which is grown exclusively on fields where the soil is especially beneficial for growing hemp without using any herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides.

To preserve all the compounds in our extracts, a highly efficient supercritical CO2 extraction has been used which leads to the highest quality CBD-oil on the market.

Apart from cannabinoids, our organic hemp  contains variety of:

  • minerals
  • vitamins
  • proteins
  • essential sugars
  • antioxidants
  • essential fatty acids

Cannabinoids, including Cannabidiol are potent anti-oxidants, CBD has anxiolytic and strong anti-inflammatory properties as well.  A large number of products are available including:

  • CBD tinctures with very high CBD contents
  • CBD oils
  • CBD edibles

This CBD compound has significant medical benefits. It can actually counteract the psychoactivity of THC, so it does not make people feel “high." The fact that CBD-rich cannabis is less psychoactive or non-psychoactive than THC-dominant strains makes it an appealing option for patients looking for relief.

Much of the clinical and scientific research is sponsored by the US government. Basic research suggests CBD's potential as a therapeutic treatment in a large number of conditions without disconcerting feelings of lethargy or dysphoria, including:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • diabetes
  • arthritis
  • alcoholism
  • epilepsy
  • inflammation
  • MS
  • PTSD
  • pain
  • schizophrenia
  • epilisy
  • spasms
  • siezures
  • skin diseases
  • antibiotic-resistant infections
  • and other neurological disorders

CBD has demonstrable neurogenic and neuro-protective effects, and its anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several academic research centers in the US and elsewhere.

Our CBD oils are derived from industrial hemp,  so they could be considered:

  • CBD-rich cannabis oil
  • CBD-rich hemp oil
  • hemp derived CBD oil

Cannabis doesn’t mean marijuana, but is the genus name, and general umbrella term which all forms of marijuana and hemp fall under.

The form of cannabis we use for our CBD oils is industrial hemp; we do not sell marijuana.

There are many trusted resources online to educate yourself as to how cannabidiol and hemp may effect the human system.

Almost everyone wants to know where to get CBD-rich products and how to use them for maximum benefit.

New high-CBD varieties are constantly hitting the market, and it can be difficult to keep track of them all. To help you out, we've put together this handy list of all the CBD-rich strains in our database to help you see your options. Click the tile to navigate to the strain's profile where you can learn more about its effects, medical benefits, and availability near you.

What is CBD, you might ask? CBD stands for cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive cannabis constituent with a variety of studied benefits such as:

  • Pain relief
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-epileptic
  • Strengthens bones
  • Anti-nausea
  • Counteracting THC-induced anxiety

A strain can be high in THC, CBD, or a combination of the two. Both compounds have unique medicinal properties, some of which are amplified when both compounds are present (e.g. pain or nausea relief).

But keep in mind, while the strains below have a tendency to contain higher levels of CBD, not every harvest will demonstrate a CBD-rich chemical profile. Take Critical Mass and Warlock as examples. These strains can express a high THC profile with only minimal levels of CBD, but you also see instances in which the cannabinoid content is reversed. It all comes down to how a strain was bred and which characteristics the plant ends up expressing.
